- Q & A
When Colonel Jeff Cooper founded the American Pistol Institute – now Gunsite – in 1976, he preached the need for tactics and techniques and also spread the following acronym: D.V.C. D.V.C. is Latin for three words: Diligentia (accuracy), Vis (force) and Celeritas (speed), and those three things were necessities Cooper firmly believed in. In order to fulfill those requirements, he also believed in the use of a particular handgun, you got it, the .45 ACP. Some argue this was because, at the time, the .45 ACP’s massive size was a must due to the frequent failure of the era’s hollow points to properly expand. While it’s true the .45 ACP can cause serious damage even with non-expanding FMJ rounds, it’s also true that its strength and power is as important and vital today as it was at its inception more than a century ago.
If there was one thing Cooper knew, it was guns, and he once said he felt that perhaps the most important requirement from your gun was that it be unfairly large. He felt that if you were in a fair gunfight, you’d done something wrong, and carrying a .45 ACP tends to tip the scales in your favor. Of course, your gunfight will also be unfair if your shot placement is lacking, and that’s why you need to train with your big, bad gun. These FMJ rounds are just right for target practice, self-defense training, and plinking, and at a heavy 230 grain, they hit hard. They have a muzzle velocity of 850 feet per second, and come on, they’re .45 ACP, do you really doubt they have the energy of a speeding train?
Wolf produces this ammunition as a part of the 300-year-old Tula Arms Plant in Tula, Russia. They use a special bi-metal layering process, alternating steel and copper to create a steel case, which they then coat in a special polymer for dependable cycling. They also use boxer primer and design them to be non-corrosive, which means there’s less friction in your gun’s barrel. When you place your order for these hard-hitting steel-cased target rounds, you get 450 in a sealed can – yes, 450 – at a great competitive price. If you want to do Col. Cooper proud, you need to train, and in order to train, you’re going to need a big ammunition order. This is that order.
