- Q & A
When it comes to competition shooting, there are a few things to remember. First and foremost, read the rulebook. Don’t make any assumptions – or take anyone’s word for anything, no matter how well-meaning. Knowing the written rules of your sport is essential. And second, and perhaps most surprising, just get out and compete. Although of course you want to win, you don’t have to practice “just a little more” or reach a certain point. Sometimes you’re required to take a class prior to competing, and more often than not, you’ll be grouped with shooters who have a similar skill set, from beginners on up. One more quick tip is that competitors use rounds like these, which have a Truncated Cone, for a very specific reason.
Winchester’s TCMC (Truncated Cone Metal Case) rounds are great for training and can also be used for competing. Their Truncated Cone means they have a cone-shaped nose with a cut-off end, which means they deliver neat round holes instead of torn, jagged ones. With a clean edge you get far more accurate scoring rather than being stuck with what is known as “leaners” or unidentifiable marks. MC is like a FMJ, so it doesn’t expand on impact and is designed for target practice and training, such as for competition. At 147 grain these are heavy 9mm rounds and a fairly common one in competition shooting. Muzzle velocity is 990 feet per second and muzzle energy is 320 foot-pounds.
Winchester was founded in 1866, and just as the Winchester name is synonymous with the romance of the Old West, it’s also synonymous with quality. Today they have a range on their property in Alton, Illinois, that’s open 7 days a week and has extensive facilities for a variety of shooting sports. They also have the amazing 640-acre NILO Farms, which is a fantastic hunting preserve. Winchester’s dedication to shooting and 150 years of experience shine through in these target rounds. There are 50 rounds in the box, which is just enough to get you hooked. Training, competing, or ventilating cans, get your order in for these target rounds.
