More Details About Our 20 Rounds of 130gr Extreme Point .270 Win Short Mag Ammo by Winchester
This ammunition will not work in a 270 Win rifle.
Winchester’s Deer Season XP line of 270 WSM ammunition is perfect for hunting deer, as you might have guessed, but we wouldn’t doubt for a moment whether this round’s 130 grain Extreme Point bullet would also capably anchor a hog. Heck, try it out on a squirrel if you like. (Just don’t count on finding any trace of the squirrel’s existence afterward.)
The Extreme Point is a polymer tipped bullet, yet it is special enough to warrant referring to it by its brand name. Its tip is big, and that’s not just a marketing gimmick. The tip makes up nearly half of the Extreme Point’s frontal surface, which streamlines its profile to an extent that elevates the flat base bullet’s G1 ballistic coefficient to 0.457. With that kind of ability to overcome air resistance the Extreme Point consistently retains at least 1,500 ft lbs of energy until 494 yards. Going for smaller whitetail or boar? The Extreme Point still conserves at least 1,000 ft lbs of energy until 740 yards.
The Extreme Point’s big tip has yet another trick up its sleeve. On impact its broad base instantly disrupts its tapered jacket and alloyed lead core to couple massive energy transfer with a wide wound cavity. The tough Extreme Point backs up that terminal performance with profound penetration. “Effective” doesn’t do it justice. Winchester’s finest brass, primer and propellant are all the Extreme Point needs to make you believe in the power of polymer!
