More Details About Our 1000 Rounds of 124gr JHP 9mm +P Ammo by Speer
Serious self-defense calls for serious 9mm +P ammunition. Speer’s Gold Dot jacketed hollow point projectile is designed to deliver both the barrier penetration and the reliable terminal expansion police officers can trust to keep them safe out in the field. It’s no less practical for a civilian’s purposes.
The Gold Dot JHP begins as an alloyed-lead core, which is then electrochemically bonded to its copper jacket. The JHP is unusually tough as the result, which enables it to retain most if not all of its weight while it pierces a barrier – the key to consistently deep penetration. The JHP retains 100% of its weight before coming to a rest within ballistic gelatin, even if it first has to pass through heavy clothing, sheet steel, wall board or plywood. If the JHP has to pass through safety glass, it still manages to retain neary 84% of its weight.
The Gold Dot JHP’s nose cavity is created in two stages. The first die press programs the width to which the bullet can expand, whereas the second establishes the rate at which it can expand. When fired into bare ballistic gel, the JHP reliably doubles in diameter. If it must first pass through heavy clothing, it expands 69% in diameter. Steel, 27% in diameter; wall board, 86%; plywood, 67%; safety glass, 53%.
This ammunition features corrosion resistant and smooth-feeding nickel-plated brass cases, which also make it easier to see if a round is chambered in your pistol when you’re in poor lighting. Note that this is +P ammunition and only meant to be fired in pistols or carbines which are rated to handle its higher chamber pressure; consult your firearm’s manual or manufacturer (or ask us) if you’re uncertain.
