- Q & A
When it comes to 45 ACP ammo – you might be one of those shooters that “shoots .45 because they don’t make a 46” --- while that’s true, the good news is, they do make a Speer 45 ACP and it’s incredibly popular among shooters for good reason!
Vernon Speer founded Speer Bullets in 1944. He got the business going in a rented space in the basement of a small grocery store, setting up shop to convert .22 rimfire cases into .224” bullet jackets. Due to the efforts of World War II there were shortages in many areas, including metals, and Speer’s idea to reprocess rimfire cases put him firmly in the bullet-making business. It wasn’t long before the business outgrew the rented space and Speer went looking for a bigger space, and in the end the company was moved into a building in Lewiston, Idaho, right along the Snake River. They’ve been there ever since, and for 70 years they’ve been manufacturing ammunition trusted by shooters just like you.
These Speer rounds are made for your .45 ACP. At 230 grain they’re considered reasonably heavyweight for the cartridge size and capable of delivering serious knockdown power. These are Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) rounds and begin to expand on impact. Thanks to their jackets, expansion is controlled, allowing for deeper penetration than standard HPs can deliver, which creates a more devastating wound channel. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 890 feet per second and muzzle energy of 404 foot-pounds. This ammunition was designed for self-defense.
There are 20 defense rounds in this single box of ammunition. With 20 rounds you can keep your gun loaded and ready for personal protection, but you need to keep in mind the importance of training, too. Defense rounds produce more power overall than target rounds do, meaning the only way to ensure your follow-up shot placement in a life-or-death scenario is to have advance experience with your defense rounds. Consider buying multiple boxes of ammunition to spend some time practicing with your chosen rounds. Keep yourself armed and ready for whatever may come by placing your order today.
