When Speer put this ammo to the FBI’s own test for bullet efficacy, the Gold Dot bullet lost only 0.1 grain of its total weight before it penetrated bare ballistic gel to a depth of 12.19” and expanded by over 50% in diameter. The Gold Dot bullet’s reliable terminal expansion is the work of its hollow point nose cavity, which is created via a series of die presses that controls both the rate at which it can expand and the width it can expand to.
