- Q & A
.357 Magnum is a fantastic cartridge, one the gun world wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for the efforts of renowned outdoorsman and handloader Elmer Keith. Although the cartridge was technically the result of collaborative efforts, it was Keith who put the most into this powerful round, from its internal pressure to the bullet itself. The use of the Keith bullet, which has a large, flat meplat, gave the original .357 Magnum the ability to deliver impressive rapid energy transfer and improved expansion on impact. Although the bullet was altered somewhat in the final cartridge its power and performance remains. If you use your .357 Magnum for self-defense, you need good defense rounds like these from Speer.
These .357 Magnum Speer rounds weigh in at 125 grain, making them lightweight for the cartridge size. Being lighter weight enables these rounds to travel down-range at higher speeds and also reduces felt recoil somewhat which can make accuracy easier to obtain. These are Jacketed Hollow Point, or JHP, rounds and begin to expand immediately upon impact. As these rounds expand, they also slow down, creating a large wound cavity while slowing to prevent over-penetration, which serves to protect innocent bystanders. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 1450 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 583 foot-pounds. This ammunition is designed by Speer for self-defense use.
When you place your order for this single box of Speer ammunition you get 50 defense rounds. That’s just enough to fire a few practice rounds down-range and keep your gun and spare magazines or speedloaders ready for personal protection. Since defense rounds produce greater felt recoil than target rounds it’s a good idea to train with your chosen defense rounds so you can be sure of your accuracy and placement. Speer has been in the industry since 1943 and manufactures ammunition at their factory in Lewiston, Idaho. Order now and train like you fight.
