- Q & A
7.62x54r ammo is a rimmed rifle round designed in 1891 for use in the Russian Empire by their military. It was first made for the Mosin Nagant, and although more than a century has passed, it remains in use for the Dragunov and some sniper rifles. In fact, Winchester had a contract with the Russians at one point that resulted in their making the Model 1895 chambered in this cartridge. Some refer to it as the “7.62mm Russian” which isn’t actually accurate; the “R” stands for “rimmed” and referring to it as a the 7.62mm Russian makes it easier to confuse with the 7.62mm Soviet, which is actually the 7.62x39mm. No matter what you call it, this is a big, powerful rifle round, and if you own a rifle chambered in 7.62x54r, you know it has an equally big appetite.
These are pretty heavy rounds at 174 grain and capable of serious knockdown power. They’re Hollow Point Boat Tail rounds and begin to expand on impact while simultaneously decelerating to create a massive, catastrophic wound channel. Their BT’s help them maintain an even, balanced trajectory and also help resist cross-winds, so these are a nice choice for long-distance shots. Each round flies down-range with stunning speed with a muzzle velocity of 2615 feet per second and hammers home with impressive power with a muzzle energy of 2643 foot-pounds. Sellier and Bellot produces these rounds in virgin brass cases with boxer primer; you can fire every round, collect your spent brass, reload it, and head back to the range.
There are 20 rounds in this box. These rounds are ideal for hunting game such as deer although experienced hunters have successfully taken down bear with it. It isn’t known as the Russian .30-06 for nothing; although it is not able to reach the full potential of a .30-06, it does have enormous power. This ammunition is made by Sellier and Bellot, which was founded in 1825. They’ve spent nearly 200 years making ammunition to a high standard for shooters like you, and these 7.62x54r rounds are a fantastic example of their dedication to excellence. Production takes place at their plant in Vlasim, Czech Republic. If you want to hunt with your 7.62x54r-chambered rifle, you need good HP rounds. Get your order in for this Sellier and Bellot ammunition, and go bag that 12-point buck.
