When it comes to explosively powerful large-bore cartridges, the .44 Magnum isn’t just large, it’s a big, brawny force to be reckoned with. And when Elmer Keith designed it in the early 1950’s prior to its hitting the market in 1955, he knew exactly what he was doing: creating a show-stopping round that delivers such incredible energy it’s become a legend in the firearms world. Even though there are now bigger handgun cartridges, the .44 Magnum is its own legend, unmatched and unchallenged. No other gun can claim Clint Eastwood’s “do you feel lucky” line or cause immediate recognition even in those not educated in firearms. Yes, the .44 Magnum is one awesome round, and it need awesome ammunition.
Sellier and Bellot makes this particular ammunition, and they’re pretty awesome themselves. They were founded on August 5, 1825, by a German businessman by the name of Louis Sellier whose royalist family had been forced to flee France during the revolution. Sellier got his start making percussion caps at the behest of Francis I, the Emperor of Austria, but it became apparent the company needed something more, and so his countryman Jean Maria Nicolaus Bellot joined him. With Bellot’s help the company expanded massively, and Sellier and Bellot became the respected name it remains today. Ammunition is manufactured at their plant in Vlasim, Czech Republic, to strict specifications.
At 240 grain these are heavy rounds although not as heavy as the cartridge can be. Being somewhat lighter than the heaviest possible means they can move a bit faster while retaining the ability to deliver knockdown power. These are Soft Point rounds, expanding on impact, and mushroom reliably at a slower rate than HP’s, creating deeper wound channels than HP’s as well. In areas where HP’s aren’t allowed, SP’s such as these are a great choice. This ammo is great for hunting and self-defense because the SP factor prevents over-penetration, but it can also be used for target practice. There are 50 rounds in this box and each round has a muzzle velocity of 1181 feet per second and muzzle energy of 743 foot pounds. This is powerful ammunition for your powerful gun. Don’t leave your .44 Magnum empty; place your order now.
