- Q & A
The .38 Special has been around for some time and has spent significant time being a popular round. First it spend seventy years as the standard issue caliber for law enforcement agencies all over the country, and even when it was replaced by the 9mm it remained a favorite backup gun choice for many gun owners. Today it’s still considered the favorite revolver round of all and is used for concealed carry by a number of gun owners. If you own a gun chambered in .38 Special, you must want some range time, and that means target rounds.
At 158 grain these are considered medium-weight rounds for the .38 Special. At this weight these rounds are still light enough to move down-range at high speeds but are heavy enough to do serious damage on impact. These are LRN, Lead Round Nose, rounds and don’t expand on impact but simply hit the target, penetrate, and keep going. As with all target practice, make sure you have a solid backstop in place. Each of these rounds has a muzzle velocity of 997 feet per second and muzzle energy of 349 foot-pounds. This ammunition is meant for target practice, tactical training, and plinking.
