His first project was manufacturing percussion caps for the local infantry by request of Francis I, who was, at the time, the emperor of Austria. Before long he was joined by a business partner, his fellow countryman Jean Louis Nicolaus Bellot, whose expertise made a significant difference in getting the business off the ground. By 1830 Sellier and Bellot had produced more than 60 million percussion caps and the rest is, as they say, ammunition history.
