- Q & A
The .45 ACP was created in 1904 by John Browning following years of testing and debates. During the Philippine-American War, the U.S. Cavalry had discovered their .38 Long Colt rounds were far from effective against the adrenaline-fueled charges of the native Moro Warriors, and the expected discussions and tests followed. The Cavalry noted the .45 Colt was better than .38 caliber bullets, and also noticed it was better than the .30-40 Krag, which their rifles were chambered in at that time. The rather infamous Thompson-LaGarde Tests of 1904, which involved the shooting of livestock and cadavers, resulted in the same results: .45 caliber bullets were better, no doubt. This led to the creation of the .45 ACP, and it’s remained a favorite by many in the military ever since.
These particular .45 ACP rounds are manufactured by Remington, a 200-year-old company with significant experience behind its production practices. At 185 grain these are considered moderately weighted rounds capable of slamming into targets with solid force. These are Jacketed Hollow Point, JHP, rounds and begin to expand immediately upon impact. Because they’re jacketed, expansion is more controlled than in standard HP rounds, allowing for greater penetration and a larger wound cavity. Each of these rounds produces a muzzle velocity of 1000 feet per second and muzzle energy of 411 foot-pounds. This ammunition is specifically made for self-defense use.
There are 50 defense rounds in this single box of Remington ammunition. That’s just enough to load your pistol and spare magazines with a bit left over for target practice. Keep in mind that defense rounds produce more felt recoil and greater muzzle rise than target rounds, and the only way to ensure accuracy and placement is through realistic practice. Order one box of ammunition to be loaded and ready; order two or more boxes to train and be sure of your marksmanship should you need to defend yourself or those you love. These are brass-cased rounds with boxer primer and can be reloaded. Remington manufactures ammunition at their longtime factory in Lonoke, Arkansas, according to exacting standards. If you’re serious about self-defense, you need serious ammunition. Order now, and be ready.
