- Q & A
The .25-06 started its life as a wildcat round but ended up becoming a commercial round thanks to Remington in 1969. It was made by Charles Norton who created the cartridge by necking down a .30-06 and loading it with a .25-35 Win bullet. Interesting side note: Norton’s creation inspired another creation, the .250-3000 Savage, back in 1915. Some shooters enjoy the .25-06 because it delivers power similar – although less – than the .30-06 without the incredible felt recoil the .30-06 produces. Guns chambered in .25-06 are often used for hunting game such as deer and antelope. If you hunt with yours, make sure you’re using good hunting rounds.
These rounds are manufactured for your .25-06 by Remington, the same company that had the cartridge standardized several decades ago. They weigh in at 120 grain which makes them heavy for the cartridge size. Being heavier weight enables these rounds to impact targets with greater force, allowing for them to be used on larger game. These rounds have a PSP, Pointed Soft Point, bullet which begins to expand on impact. PSPs mushroom more slowly than HPs for greater penetration and a deeper wound cavity. This ammunition can be used for hunting game such as whitetail deer and have been used by seasoned hunters on elk.
When you order this single box of ammunition from Remington you get 20 rounds. With 20 rounds you can zero your optics, fire a few practice shots, and fill your tag. If you want to make sure you don’t run out at an inopportune time – and that you can practice at length, not to mention drop multiple game animals – order more than one box. Each of these rounds produces a muzzle velocity of 2990 feet per second and muzzle energy of 2382 foot-pounds. Remington manufactures ammunition at their factory in Lonoke, Arkansas.
