When it comes to bulk 223 Remington ammo for plinking, you can't beat the Remington UMC. The company itself got its start in 1816 as E. Remington and Sons, and now, almost 200 years later, the venerable company has become a giant in the world of firearms and ammunition.
Appropriately, Remington the company created the .223 Remington round in 1964. It’s a cartridge with similar dimensions to the 5.56x45mm NATO, but the similarities are only external. Internally, a .223 round has less pressure than a 5.56 does so you'll want to be sure not to fire 5.56 in your AR-15 if it is chambered for .223.
These .223 rounds are a lightweight 55 grain, and being light means they can reach even greater speeds. This is Metal Case ammunition, which is Remington’s version of FMJ, and as such does not expand and tends to over-penetrate, so you need to have a good backstop. This ammunition is great for target practice, tactical training, and plinking. Each round flies down-range with a muzzle velocity of 3240 feet per second and hits home with a muzzle energy of 1282 foot-pounds. There are 200 target rounds in this package. They'll arrive at your door ready for the range!
Most Useful Review POSITIVE vs. NEGATIVE
Great shooting the gun, but I've found that Nato 556 is much more superior

- is the ammo hollow point? and do you sell in bulk Posted On: 10/6/2020 By: Anthony Tedesco
- Hi Anthony! This isn't hollow point ammo, and I'm afraid we haven't got it in stock at the moment. If your rifle is chambered for 5.56x45, then I do believe you'll find this brass cased M855 ammo by Wolf a suitable option for self-defense: ammoforsale.com/20-rounds-of-62gr-fmj-m855-5-56x45-ammo-by-wolf. This is penetrator ammo, designed to pierce a 1/8" sheet of steel up to about 300 yards. It doesn't expand inside soft tissue, although an M855 bullet does have a tendency to tumble within soft tissue to deliver a more debilitating wound channel. Just take care that this round's bullet does contain steel and is magnetic. We are only offering this ammo in boxes of 20 for the time being, but you can order as many as you wish. I hope this helps – please let me know if you've any other questions!
- What bullets work for my model m&p15? Posted On: 9/9/2020 By: Anatoliy Tony Vladimirovich Balanyuk
- Thanks for reaching out Anatoliy! The M&P15 is chambered for 5.56x45, which means it can also fire 223 Rem. I'm afraid I'm not able to recommend a whole lot to you right now thanks to the ongoing ammo drought, but we have fortunately got excellent self-defense ammo for your rifle in stock: ammoforsale.com/20-rounds-of-55gr-sp-223-ammo-by-federal-le-tactical. This ammo has a soft point bullet, which means it will expand within soft tissue to more effectively neutralize a threat to your safety. It's made specifically for law enforcement officers, but you can order it as well. You can even see this round's terminal performance through various urban barriers in Federal's catalog (look for T223A): le.vistaoutdoor.com/downloads/catalogs/223RifleDataBook_vol-1.pdf

- what is the best AR15 ammo and the price Posted On: 9/1/2020 By: Augusto Paglialunga
- I'm afraid we only have one selection for AR-15 ammo at the moment: ammoforsale.com/20-rounds-of-55gr-frangible-223-rem-ammo-by-speer. This is frangible ammo, so its bullet will disintegrate upon hitting a hard surface. Not ideal for self-defense, but still perfectly capable of neutralizing a threat. Potentially safer for home defense since it's less likely to penetrate multiple walls as well. We would have had a huge available selection if not for the ammo drought, but we're still getting in new ammo all the time and updating our site just as often. I hope you'll check in again soon to see what we can do for you!
- I would like to buy a couple of thousand rounds of 223/556 ammo but all you show is 200 round boxes. Would the price be lower for larger quantity or bulk? Posted On: 8/26/2020 By: Larry Morrison
- Thanks for reaching out Larry! We are currently only offering ammo in the quantities listed on our site, and we do not offer bulk pricing when you buy multiple boxes.
- I’m looking to purchase ammunition for my RUGAR AR 556 what is the best size to use and where can I get them every where at out of stock thanks Posted On: 8/24/2020 By: Danha Edward
- Hello Danha! Because your rifle is chambered for 5.56x45, it can also safely fire 223 Rem. I regret that the only suitable ammo we have in stock thanks to the ongoing drought is this: ammoforsale.com/200-rounds-of-55gr-blitzking-223-ammo-by-sierra. It's optimal for varmint hunting, but it would also make an extremely effective solution for self-defense as well. For target practice you want a more cost-effective FMJ bullet. The standard bullet weight for both 5.56 and 223 Rem is 55 grains, so I'd recommend you look for that. Our inventory changes frequently and we update our site just as often, so I hope you'll check back in with us again soon to see what we csn do for you!
- What’s the best choice for AR ammo for self defense at a reasonable cost? Also, is it true that the armed forces use FMJ ammo for its durability in transport? Posted On: 7/27/2020 By: Mark Triplett
- Hi Mark! I'm not sure about FMJ ammo offering superior durability in transport – that may be true. The reason that I understand our Army uses M193 and M855 ammunition is because of the Hague Convention of 1899, which prohibits the use in international warfare of bullets that easily expand or flatten in the body. Basically all the countries got together and agreed that hollow point bullets are unethical because they cause a needless amount of suffering, the logic being that a soldier who is shot by an FMJ is just as neutralized as if he were shot by an expanding bullet. For self-defense with an AR-15, you are legally allowed to use expanding bullets just like our police do. These may be soft point bullets, polymer tip bullets, or JHP. My personal favorite is Federals TRU line of ammunition, which I welcome you to learn more about right here: https://le.vistaoutdoor.com/downloads/catalogs/223RifleDataBook_vol-1.pdf. Unfortunately the ammo drought has made it rather difficult to get optimal self-defense AR-15 ammo. To that point, I must emphasize that FMJ is perfectly capable of neutralizing a threat very quickly – our own Army makes excellent use of it, after all. Many people love M855, which is optimized to penetrate steel plates up to certain distances. My recommendation to you right now would be to get any repsected manufacturer's FMJ ammo – Hornady Frontier, Federal American Eagle, Remington UMC, and Winchester USA would all make great additions to your arsenal. Please let me know if I missed anything!

- Does your ammo contain steel because my shooting range does not allow steel in the ammo you bring to shoot . Posted On: 6/6/2014 By: robert
- Hello Robert, These 55gr. FMJ rounds by Remington in .223 have a lead core, copper jacket, and a brass case. They do not contain any steel and are safe to shot on ranges that do not allow magnetic rounds.
