If you’re a dove hunter – or just want to be – you’ll have a far more successful season if you take the time to make sure you’re using the right gun and ammunition. Test the pattern by putting up a large piece of cardboard, preferably about 4-foot-square, and covering it with butcher paper. You’ll need to fire at least three rounds with the same choke and load from the same distance every time, although it’s best if you fire five or more rounds. Change the paper between each shot. When you’re done, tie a marker to a 15-inch string and use it as a compass of sorts to draw a 30-inch circle around each pattern with the center of each circle being the densest part of the pattern. The vital area of a dove is only the size of a golf ball, so what you want to see is around 250 holes in that circle. If you’re not getting that, make some adjustments until you do.
These 12-gauge rounds each have a 1 ounce load which is a powerful enough load to propel the buckshot to your target while keeping felt recoil to a reasonable level. Shooters using a 1 ounce load say it’s a decent level of felt recoil for those small in stature to use and withstand. Each round is 2 ¾” long and filled with #8 lead shot. These rounds fly towards your target with a muzzle velocity of 1290 feet per second and deliver more than enough power for a clean kill. This is Remington’s Game Load line and this particular size is intended for birds such as doves and woodcocks.
There are 25 rounds in this single box of ammunition from Remington. That’s just enough rounds to keep you going for a bit during a hunt or to get some range time in to hone your shot placement in advance. Boxes this size are a good fit for hunting because they’re not overly large and heavy. Remington has been manufacturing firearms and ammunition for 200 years and now has six plants in various locations throughout the South and on the east coast. Ammunition is manufactured at their plant in Lonoke, Arkansas. Whether you want to have a fantastic dove hunt or just want to put a few rounds through paper, get your order in and keep your shotgun fed.
