- Q & A
The .30-06 is one big, bold rifle round. It’s been around since 1906 – hence to “06” in its name – and after spending about 50 years as the most common rifle round in the U.S. Army it settled into popularity as a hunting round. One of the reasons the round is so well-liked is because it’s right at the upper limits of the amount of recoil the average shooter can stand. Anything above 20 foot-pounds of recoil energy rebounding back into a shooter can cause an involuntary flinch, and the .30-06 is right at 20.1 with a 165 grain bullet. This round has taken down game of all sizes on a number of continents, and if you use yours for hunting, you’re going to want some range time to make sure your shot placement is up to that perfect shot on your next hunt.
These .30-06 rounds are made by Prvi Partizan, a company that was came into being in 1927 when founder Jakob Posinger agreed to move his workship into military barracks in Serbia. It was 1928 before the barracks had the necessary equipment, and as soon as things were ready Posinger got to work. Before long Prvi Partizan had a staff of 150, and in 1935 the local government decided to give Posinger land to build a free-standing factory. They got started building the factory in June of 1935, naming it the Factory of Arms and Ammunition in Uzice, or FOMU for short, and from that point on the company continued to grow in ways large and small. They changed their name to Prvi Partizan in 1947 and today distribute their ammunition all around the world.
The Prvi Partizan rounds are, of course, for your .30-06. At 150 grain they fall at the light end of the weight spectrum, but they’re more than heavy enough to hit your target with fantastic force. These are Full Metal Jacket rounds and won’t expand on impact but simply penetrate and keep on going, so make sure you have a good backstop in place. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second. This ammunition is meant for target practice, shooting drills, and plinking. There are 500 target rounds in this box of ammunition, which is manufactured at Prvi Partizan’s factory in Uzice, Serbia. Order now to spend time training with your favorite rifle, because you don’t want a lack of practice to make you miss that 12-point buck.
