- Q & A
Smith & Wesson designed the .38 Special cartridge in 1898. It was created as a more powerful version of the .38 Long Colt which proved less than effective against the adrenaline-fueled charges of the Moro Warriors during the Philippine-American War. During that war the U.S. Cavalry was armed with guns chambered in .38 Long Colt and .30-40 Krag, among others. The cavalry discovered that even though the Moros were armed mostly with wooden, handmade weapons, their firearms failed to stop them. This led to a few cartridges being made one of which was the .38 Special.
This is a versatile cartridge with a rich history of military and law enforcement service. These particular .38 Special rounds are manufactured by PMC – Precision Made Cartridge. At 132 grain these are considered fairly lightweight for the cartridge size. Being lighter enables them to travel down-range at higher speeds and also keeps felt recoil down. These are FMJ, Full Metal Jacket, rounds and do not expand on impact. This ammunition is meant for target practice and plinking.
When you order this box of ammunition from PMC you get 300 target rounds. With 300 rounds you can spend dedicated trigger time with your .38 Special working on improving accuracy and grouping or just knocking down empty soda cans and water jugs. And since these rounds are made in fresh brass cases with boxer primer you can collect your spent brass and reload it. Each round produces a muzzle velocity of 917 feet per second and muzzle energy of 232 foot-pounds. PMC manufactures ammunition at their factories in Angang and Dongrae, South Korea according to SAAMI or CIP specifications. Order now for some quality time with your favorite handgun.
