If you have a lever-action 45-70 Government rifle, then you might assume the only bullets you can fire are flat-tipped. Not so! Thanks to Hornady of Nebraska, you can now hunt with the accuracy of spitzer bullets!

This 45-70 round features Hornady’s 325 grain FTX projectile. The streamlined secant ogive profile bullet’s “Flex Tip” is made of a special elastomer. The material is too supple to dent the primer it touches in the magazine, which makes it the safe choice for a lever gun. The FTX conserves over 1,500 ft lbs of energy at 200 yards. It’s also relatively flat-shooting, delivering -23” drop at 300 yards after reaching a 200-yard zero.

The FTX features an InterLock ring, which mechanically embeds its copper alloy jacket into its dense lead core. That keeps the bullet intact enough to penetrate to a lethal depth. And because impact rams the Flex Tip into its concealed hollow point cavity, the FTX also delivers the terminal ballistics which assure a good outcome in the field.
