The .38 Special was designed in 1898 by Smith and Wesson. It’s sometimes referred to by other designations such as the 9x29.5mmR or 9.1x29mmR. It’s always been popular among many gun owners thanks to its manageable recoil and accuracy, and it certainly has enjoyed some extensive use. For example, between the 1920s and 1990s it was the standard issue weapon for law enforcement agencies across the country. Today it’s the best-selling revolver cartridge on the market.
Many gun owners use their .38 Specials for self-defense purposes. If you do, make sure you keep your gun loaded with good quality ammunition. Take a look at these rounds manufactured by Hornady. They weigh in at 110 grain which makes them quite lightweight for the cartridge size. Being lighter weight enables them to travel towards targets at higher speeds and also helps keep felt recoil manageable. These rounds are topped with Hornady’s FTX, Flex Tip eXpanding, bullet. The FTX has a polymer insert to aid in expansion and keep things like layers of clothing from interfering with the bullet’s ability to expand and penetrate. This ammunition is meant for self-defense use.
When you order this box of ammunition from Hornady you get 250 defense rounds. With 250 rounds you can keep your gun and speedloaders loaded and ready for whatever may come and have enough left over for realistic training. Remember, defense rounds produce more felt recoil and muzzle rise than target rounds, so the only way to ensure accuracy is by practicing with your chosen defense ammunition. Each of these rounds produces a muzzle velocity of 1010 feet per second and muzzle energy of 249 foot-pounds. Hornady manufactures ammunition at their factory in Grand Island, Nebraska. Order now to train like you may one day have to fight.
