- Q & A
You hunt with a rifle chambered in .30-06 because you want a round powerful enough to take down game hard, fast, and without hesitation. Since the moment of its creation in 1906 the .30-06 has delivered immense power which is why it was first introduced for use by the U.S. Army. It remained in use for eighty years, fifty of which it spent as the army’s primary rifle and machine gun round, and today it’s considered one of the greatest rifle rounds on the market for hunting. Hunters have used the .30-06 to take down everything from deer to bear to bison, and if you hunt using one of these awesome rifles, you understand the importance of keeping it loaded with the right ammunition. Enter Hornady and their impressive, high-quality rounds.
These Hornady rounds are made for your .30-06 and weigh in at 150 grain. This is a good weight for many reasons, starting with the fact that they’re heavy enough to impact targets with substantial force but light enough to race towards targets at fantastic speeds. In addition, 150 grain rounds produce less felt recoil, and considering that guns chambered in .30-06 produce felt recoil greater than 20 foot-pounds when loaded with heavier rounds, that’s a good thing. 150 grain is a good weight for newcomers to the .30-06 because they’re less likely to involuntarily flinch with lessened felt recoil. These are Soft Point, or SP, rounds and begin to expand immediately upon impact, creating a devastating wound track. This ammunition is great for hunting game the size of whitetail deer.
When you order this ammunition from Hornady you get 10 boxes of 20 rounds each for a total of 200 rounds. With 200 SP rounds you can get some serious hunting in with enough ammo for zeroing optics and firing practice rounds. Each of these rounds produces a muzzle velocity of 2910 feet per second and muzzle energy of 2820 foot-pounds. They’re produced in fresh brass cases with boxer primer, so you can get as much trigger time as you want simply by collecting spent brass, reloading, and getting back to it. Hornady was founded in 1949 and manufactures ammunition at their longtime factory in Grand Island, Nebraska. Order now, and get ready to fill your deer tag with ammunition made by a legendary American company.

- Is the Hornady SP30.06 Springfiedld good for my M-1 Garand Posted On: 3/7/2023 By: Vern Stonge
- Thanks for reaching out Vern! This round's 150 grain bullet is loaded to deliver a muzzle velocity of 2,910 fps. That's the same bullet weight as the M1 Garand's M2 ball ammunition, but with a 170 fps faster muzzle velocity. Would that added chamber pressure be enough to damage your M1 Garand's operating rod? Possibly not, although I cannot guarantee it. As a rule I only recommend 30-06 for an M1 Garand when it is specifically loaded to the rifle's preferred specifications, because I cannot risk advising ammo that has the potential to damage such a legendary rifle. I'm sorry we haven't got any M2 ball spec ammo for you in stock right now, but we do update our inventory constantly.
