- Q & A
Soft Point rounds have bullets made of softer lead than standard expanding bullets, hence the name of “soft.” On impact they immediately begin to expand with expansion occurring at a slower rate than happens with HPs. As they expand they create a devastating wound cavity. Because they expand more gradually than HPs they also decelerate at a slower rate, enabling them to penetrate more deeply and cause an even deeper wound. SPs are preferred by some hunters and are a good choice in areas where HPs are restricted or banned entirely.
These are 55 grain rounds, so they’re lightweight by .223 Remington standards. Being lighter gives them the ability to travel at higher speeds while leaving them with substantial knockdown power. These are Soft Point rounds and expand on impact as described above, creating deep, effective wound tracks. Each round moves with fantastic speed at a muzzle velocity of 3240 feet per second and hammer into targets with a muzzle energy of 1282 foot-pounds. This ammunition is great for hunting small game and can be used for target practice, tactical training, and plinking.
When you order this box of ammunition from Hornady, you get 500 rounds. With that much ammunition you’ll be able to dedicate some focused time to your .223-chambered rifle; just think how much your accuracy and shot placement could improve with 500 rounds. Hornady produces these in fresh brass cases with boxer primer, and that means you can reload them and spend even more time with your favorite rifle. Ammunition is manufactured at Hornady’s plant in Grand Island, Nebraska. Order yours now and keep your rifle warm.
