More Details About This Federal 220gr OTM .300 AAC Blackout Ammo
Turn down the noise – witness outstanding accuracy! Federal American Eagle Suppressor 300 AAC Blackout ammunition is loaded with a heavy 220 grain bullet. Its inertia is so great that it will only achieve a muzzle velocity of 1,000 feet per second, thus doing away with the intense cracking report intrinsic to supersonic loads. If you have a suppressor, it’s going to accomplish its job much more effectively when you fire this ammo. If you do not have a suppressor, this ammo is still going to make your rifle run noticeably quieter. And because its 220 grain bullet still generates normal chamber pressure, this ammo will still cycle a semi-automatic!
The bullet itself is an open tip match. The OTM is not intended for hunting or self-defense applications. Despite its appearance, its nose cavity is not engineered to make the bullet widen out as it stabs through soft tissue. The OTM has a hole in its tip because molten lead is injected into its jacket at the factory. This creates the form-fitted lead core the OTM needs in order to exhibit excellent rotational stability in flight. Thanks to its balanced design and massive weight, this round’s bullet has a high G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.650 (a measure of how efficiently a bullet overcomes air resistance). And because the OTM cannot undergo transonic destabilization (a phenomenon in which a bullet picks up a wobble because its velocity transfers from supersonic to subsonic), it provides even more impressive accuracy.
This ammo’s clean-igniting propellant reduces residue accumulation on the bore and inside a suppressor, and its brass cases are very much reloadable. Made in Minnesota!
