- Q & A
Back in September of 2012, the US Army awarded a 5-year, $64 million contract to Beretta for around 100,000 of their M9 handguns. Chambered in 9mm, which the Army has been loyal to for quite awhile, the guns have continued to be standard issue even as other branches of the military have changed to other calibers. There are reasons for the Army’s loyalty to the 9mm, though. The greater magazine capacity is a major selling point, and the rounds do provide good stopping power. And, of course, they’re more affordable. 9mm’s are so popular law enforcement agencies spent 70 years making them their standard issue, and for civilians nationwide they’ve become a favorite in staggering numbers.
124 grain is a medium-weight round for this cartridge. It’s a good weight for practice because it’s light enough to keep the recoil low, and that’s easier on your hands, enabling you to train longer. These rounds have the following ballistics:
- Muzzle velocity: 1,150 feet per second
- 25-yard velocity: 1,095 feet per second
- 50-yard velocity: 1,049 feet per second
- 75-yard velocity: 1,010 feet per second
- 100-yard velocity: 977 feet per second
- Muzzle energy: 364 foot-pounds
- 25-yard energy: 330 foot-pounds
- 50-yard energy: 303 foot-pounds
- 75-yard energy: 281 foot-pounds
- 100-yard energy: 263 foot-pounds
Federal manufactures these rounds at their Anoka, Minnesota, plant. With 50 rounds in the box, you can give your handgun a snack and put a few rounds down-range or tuck the box into your range bag for later. These are good quality target rounds; Federal has a well-known and nearly century-long reputation for producing ammunition sport and hunting shooters appreciate for its accuracy and competitive prices. 9mm is a popular round for good reason, and if you really love your 9mm handgun, you’ll feed it.

- Hey there, was curious if these bullets are good for 9 mm Gluck. Thanks in advance. Posted On: 10/18/2021 By: Ash
- Yes sir, this is pretty much the most basic kind of target shooting ammo you could pick for your 9mm Glock!
- Just bought a Glock 19 G4 9mm. Will these work with that? Posted On: 6/23/2020 By: Austin Silvey
- Absolutely! This 9mm ammo is a good choice for target shooting, range training, and plinking with your G19. This particular ammo has an FMJ bullet, which is considered less practical for self-defense because it does not expand within soft tissue to create a wider, more debilitating wound cavity. If you would use your handgun for self-defense, then I recommend you also get a box of Federal HST ammunition: ammoforsale.com/50-rounds-of-124gr-jhp-hst-9mm-ammo-by-federal-law-enforcement. This ammo is designed for law enforcement applications. Its jacketed hollow point (JHP) bullet penetrates barriers reliably and subsequently expands to more effectively neutralize a threat.
