- Q & A
During the Mozambican War of Independence, a Rhodesian mercenary by the name of Mike Rousseau was engaged in a firefight at the airport at Lourenco Marques. Rousseau was carrying his Browning HP35 pistol when he turned a corner and found himself face-to-face with a guerilla armed with an AK-47. Without hesitating Rousseau did a double-tap – as so many shooters are trained to do – firing two rounds to center mass, only to find the guerilla kept coming. Reacting quickly, Rousseau delivered a third shot, which went through his attacker’s neck. When he visited the States, Rousseau relayed his experience to Col. Jeff Cooper, who turned it into the Mozambique Drill. You can practice this well-known drill yourself; the idea is to work on speed and accuracy delivering two rounds to center mass and a third shot to the head.
At 185 grain these are considered relatively lightweight for the .45 ACP. They’re Jacketed Hollow Points and begin to expand the moment they strike the target. Thanks to the jacket the bullet has more controlled expansion, which allows it to penetrate more deeply, creating a large, more crippling wound cavity. Each of these rounds leaves the barrel of your gun with a muzzle velocity of 950 feet per second and hits home with a muzzle energy of 350 foot-pounds. This is Federal’s Hi-Shok ammunition which is specifically made for self-defense use.
You get 50 defense rounds in this single box of ammunition from Federal. Federal has been in business since 1922, and with nearly 100 years of experience you know they’ve got the production process down to a science – literally. These rounds are manufactured in Anoka, Minnesota, and produced in virgin brass cases with boxer primer, so you can burn through the box during range time, police your spent brass, reload it, and hit the range again. Defense rounds should absolutely be used for target practice because it’s vital you master their greater recoil. How will you deliver accurate follow-up shots if you’re not used to the increased power and muzzle flip of your defense ammunition? Get your order in today to be well and truly prepared.
