- Q & A
The 1986 FBI Miami Shootout had long-term effects on the firearm industry in the form of a new cartridge being introduced. During the events of that long-ago day a pair of serial bank robbers led a team of FBI agents on a car chase that ended in a firefight in the streets of Miami. Both robbers were shot early on yet continued to fight, managing to wound the majority of the agents present. Sadly, they killed two agents, one of whom, Ben Grogan, was a renowned sharpshooter but lost his glasses during the fight which rendered him almost entirely unable to see. When the dust settled the FBI decided their agents needed a better round for standard issue, and after four years of testing and design, the .40 S&W was created.
These particular .40 S&W rounds are made by Federal. They’re 165 grain, making them medium-weight for the cartridge size, giving shooters the best of both worlds due to their being light enough to fly down-range at higher speeds but heavy enough to make a significant impact. These are Jacketed Hollow Point, or JHP, rounds and begin to expand immediately upon impact, penetrating deeply for a large, devastating wound cavity. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 980 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 352 foot-pounds. This ammunition is specifically designed for self-defense purposes.
There are 50 defense rounds in this single box of Federal ammunition. That’s just enough to keep your handgun and spare magazines loaded and ready for personal protection. If you want to spend time training with your chosen defense rounds, which is highly recommended, order more than one box. Defense rounds produce more felt recoil than target rounds do, so training with them is the only way to ensure accuracy and placement. Someday your life could depend on it. Federal manufactures ammunition at their longtime factory in Anoka, Minnesota. Place your order now and give yourself the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re armed and ready to protect those you love.
