- Q & A
If you’re hunting varmints, including prairie dogs and coyotes, you should be using these Federal .223 50 grain Polymer-Tipped rounds. The polymer coating aids in maintaining efficiency and speed while also pushing back on impact, causing significant expansion and major energy transfer to your target. That means you’re getting match-grade accuracy with expansion meant to offer a quick, clean kill. Many hunters swear by these poly tips over traditional hollow points.
At 50 grain, these are lightweight rounds, and that’s good, because it increases speed, which increases your ability to hit your target. These rounds have a muzzle velocity of 3,350 feet per second, so they get there quick. They also have a muzzle energy of 1,245 foot-pounds, and when you factor in the efficiency of the poly tips, you have a neat small-game hunting round.
Avid shooters tend to prefer American-made ammunition, and these are made in Anoka, Minnesota, at the same plant Federal has had since 1922. Charles Horn took over the plant nearly a century ago, and you can bet he’d be pleased with the standards and design of this ammunition. Today Federal has a staff of almost 1,500, and every team member has the same dedication that turned Federal into a military favorite all those years ago.
In addition to their highlight feature of poly tips, these rounds are reloadable, thanks their fresh brass cases and boxer priming. They’re also reliable over a wide temperature range, having been tested from -40 degrees to +125 degrees Fahrenheit. There’s even a water-resistant anaerobic primer sealant on every round to ensure moisture resistance. There are 20 rounds in this box, and although it’s great for varmint hunting, it can also be used for target practice and plinking. Get yours today to find out why poly tips have become so widely used by experienced hunters.
