- Q & A
Blazer is a subsidiary of Cascade Cartridges, Inc., which is better known in the firearms world as CCI, a company founded in 1951 by Richard Speer. At first Richard wanted to produce some of the more difficult-to-find ammunition, but in the post-World War II era, metal was in short supply, which negatively affected the production of brass cases. Realizing how difficult it would be to come up with the necessary metal, Richard decided to take on a problem he could fix: the primer shortage. After some trial and error, he came up with a non-corrosive, non-mercuric formula, and CCI’s reputation for superior primers was born. When you feed your gun ammunition from CCI, you can be confident you’re getting high quality rounds.
These .38 Special rounds are a medium-weight 158 grain. They’re Total Metal Jacket, which is like FMJ only the bullet is entirely encased meaning lead doesn’t go airborne when you fire your gun. In addition, these are CCI’s Clean Fire rounds, which are carefully tailored not to release toxins such as lead, barium, and antimony into the air. If your range requires lead-free, clean ammo, these rounds are exactly that. They’re fantastic for target practice, shooting drills, and plinking, and because they’re +P rounds they’re loaded to a higher pressure, so they have increased power. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 850 feet per second and muzzle energy of 253 foot-pounds.
There are 1000 target rounds in this case. Because they’re +P rounds these more accurately duplicate the increased recoil of defense rounds, making training more realistic. CCI/Blazer produces these rounds using aircraft-grade aluminum, which saves you money, and they’re also more visible in dim light. Berdan primer is used to ensure reliable ignition and extend shelf-life. All of CCI’s ammunition is produced at their longtime plant in Lewiston, Idaho, and must meet strict standards before leaving the building. Whether you want to spend dedicated time improving your marksmanship or feel the need to blow away pop cans, these target rounds will get it done.
