More Details About Our 50 Rounds of 40gr SHP .22 LR Ammo by CCI
Would you like to hunt varmints without making a whole bunch of noise? That’s exactly what CCI’s Quiet-22 22 LR ammunition is for! This cartridge’s bullet weighs a normal 40 grains, but its 710 fps muzzle velocity means it will only produce about 25% as much noise as a standard velocity 22 LR cartridge. You won’t even need hearing protection if you’re firing a locked-breech pistol or rifle!
This round’s bullet is a copper-plated segmented hollow point. It doesn’t actually expand after striking its target. Instead the SHP breaks apart into three separate pieces, each of which creates its own individual wound channel. A small game critter will hate it when there are three wound channels inside its body, because that means it will die extremely quickly.
CCI’s reliable rimfire primers and high-quality little brass cases complete the whole package. But this ammo comes with two important warnings. First off, its chamber pressure is way too weak to cycle a semi-automatic. You can still fire it in a semi-automatic, but you’ll have to cycle it manually. Secondly, under no circumstances should you ever fire this ammo in a rifle with a barrel that is longer than 24”, as the bullet may fail to exit the barrel. One look at the photos that come up when you Google “squib load” will show you why that’s a bad thing.
