- Q & A
Although many shooters think of the .22LR as a fun-only round, it does have wider uses. Some shooters use it to hunt squirrels and certain birds, which does, of course, require talented marksmanship and accuracy. Farmers and homeowners in the country have also found the round useful for smaller varmint control including – but not limited to – gophers, foxes and crows. It’s at its best under 150 yards, and it’s important to remember even a small cartridge like a .22LR can travel quite a ways without a proper backstop. And that’s why these particular rounds are good; they’re hollow points.
This ammunition is copper-plated, which keeps your gun cleaner, and they’re also hollow points. .22LR HP rounds don’t expand as drastically as large calibers, but they do expand some and begin to decelerate upon impact. That makes them a good choice for varmint control as well as plinking and target practice. This particular ammunition has the following ballistics:
- Muzzle velocity: 1,260 feet per second
- 50-yard velocity: 1,104 feet per second
- 75-yard velocity: 1,048 feet per second
- 100-yard velocity: 1,003 feet per second
- Muzzle energy: 127 foot pounds
- 50-yard energy: 97 foot-pounds
- 75-yard energy: 88 foot-pounds
- 100-yard energy: 80 foot-pounds
- Trajectory (sighted at 75 yards)
- 25-yard trajectory: 0.6”
- 50-yard trajectory: 1.2”
- 75-yard trajectory: 0.0”
- 100-yard trajectory: -3.2”
This is lightweight ammunition at 36 grain. There are 100 rounds in the box, which gives you some time to play or deal with small varmints. When you buy CCI, you know you’re getting American-made ammunition. Their plant is located in Lewiston, Idaho, right near the banks of the Snake River. They’ve been making Mini-Mag rimfire since 1963, and these rounds are further proof of CCI’s great primers and high-quality products.
