More Details About This Black Hills Ammunition 40gr V-MAX .223 Ammo
Looking for top-shelf 223 Rem varmint hunting ammunition? Trust the same South Dakotan manufacturer the U.S. Armed Forces relies on for sniping ammunition!
Black Hills Ammunition did not actually manufacture this round’s 40 grain polymer tipped bullet, however. That is the V-MAX, which is made in Nebraska by Hornady and is quite possibly the most popular bullet for bagging small game in the country. Its lightweight design gives the V-MAX a supercharged muzzle velocity. What it lacks in size it makes up for in accuracy, as the V-MAX features a rotationally stable swaged lead core, a uniformly thick thin copper jacket, and a sharp tip which stabs a neat path through the air molecules it encounters en route to its unlucky target.
The V-MAX self-destructs immediately after impact. Its polymer tip’s long shaft reaches deep into its core’s nose cavity, but it does not actually touch the cavity’s base. That’s how the tip is able to store up considerable momentum until it collides with the core, at which instant it forces the entire bullet to burst and send shrapnel flying in every direction. It makes it much easier to tell when you have hit your quarry when your quarry explodes on impact!
Black Hills respects the V-MAX by arming it with a premium reloadable brass case, charge of clean-burning propellant and hyper-sensitive primer. Select a barrel with a 1:16” or 1:14” rate of twist for best results!
