The .308 Winchester was released to the general public in 1952. It was modeled after the .300 Savage and released two years before the military’s 7.62x51mm, which it’s often compared to. It’s true that the 7.62x51mm was designed based on the .308 Win, but the two are not identical and care should be taken when mixing cartridges. The .308 Win was made according to the following specifications:
- Bullet diameter: 0.308in
- Neck diameter: 0.3433in
- Shoulder diameter: 0.4539in
- Base diameter: 0.4709in
- Rim diameter: 0.4728in
- Rim thickness: 0.0539in
- Case length: 2.015
- Overall length: 2.800
- Case capacity: 56 gr H20
- Primer type: large rifle
At 145 grain these are lightweight rounds, making them capable of even greater speeds than usual and also reducing felt recoil somewhat. These are Full Metal Jacket rounds, which means they do not expand on impact but simply impact the target, penetrate, and continue traveling. Keep in mind that rifle rounds can travel for miles before stopping, so you must have a solid backstop in place. Each round flies down-range at a muzzle velocity of 2455 feet per second and hits hard with a muzzle energy of 1940 foot-pounds. This ammunition is great for target practice, tactical training, and plinking.
You get 500 target rounds in this box of ammunition from Wolf. Wolf is a subsidiary of the Tula Arms Plant which has been in business since 1712. Ammunition is manufactured at the Tula plant in Tula, Russia. In order to save you money, Wolf manufactures these rounds in steel cases, using berdan primer to ensure ignition and coating the finished rounds in a special lacquer for consistent cycling. Order your 500-round box today and hit the range with your favorite rifle.
(This ammunition is steel-cased. Some ranges do not allow rounds with steel cases, so make sure you double check before trying to use this ammunition at your area range.)
