25 Rounds of 40gr JHP 5.7x28mm Ammo by Hornady

The jacketed hollow point is the most popular bullet for self-defense, and for very good reason: IT WORKS … most of the time. Unfortunately, it’s not impossible for a JHP’s hollow point nose cavity to fill up with debris such as fabric before it begins penetrating the threat’s body. When that happens, the JHP can fail to expand, which results in less damage to the threat and increased risk of over-penetration.

Hornady designed this Critical Defense series 5.7x28mm round’s bullet to minimize the risk of expansion failure. The JHP’s nose cavity seats a polymer Flex Tip that shields it against debris, thus preserving its capacity for full expansion. No solution is foolproof, but you can rest assured you’re doing all you can to secure effective terminal ballistics when you choose Critical Defense.

This round’s 40 grain bullet leaps out of a 4.8” barrel (e.g. FN Five-seveN) at a rate of 1,810 fps (with reasonable variation). It’ll hit a close range target with over 250 ft lbs of force, which will do the trick in one shot with proper aim.
