More Details About Our 200 Rounds of 73gr FTX 223 Rem Ammo by Hornady
You don’t keep an AR-15 in your bedroom so you can turn out the lights without having to get out from under the covers. It’s there to keep you safe, so it needs ammo that’s going to do a heroic job of neutralizing a threat as quickly as possible. This 223 Rem cartridge from Hornady’s Critical Defense line of ammunition is exactly that, a feat it owes much of to its 73 grain FTX projectile.
Right away, you’ll notice that this round’s bullet is exceptionally heavy for its caliber. That gives it greater ability to penetrate deeply, as does its patented InterLock ring that keeps its high antimony core and heavy jacket bound together. The FTX’s hollow point nose cavity contains a Flex Tip, a stake of polymer that prevents clogging from dampening expansion and also initiates expansion upon impact. The FTX is highly accurate as well thanks to its symmetrical polymer meplat, secant ogive profile, and highly concentric jacket.
This round’s brass plating sports a thin layer of nickel to better protect it from the elements, improve its ability to feed and eject smoothly, and make it more visible in the dark. Since a self-defense situation is probable during the nighttime, Hornady cleverly made this round’s propellant low flash to preserve your eyesight in the dark.
