More Details About Our 20 Rounds of 90gr Xtreme Defender 9mm Ammo by Underwood
This 9mm cartridge by Underwood of Illinois excels at self-defense applications. Its 90 grain monolithic bullet consistently penetrates soft tissue as deeply as 18” and creates an even wider wound cavity than a traditional jacketed hollow point – without expanding.
The Xtreme Defender bullet operates on an altogether different principle. It looks like a drill bit thanks to the flutes radiating from its tip, but these serve an important purpose. The symmetrical grooves actively scoop up any soft tissue they touch, compress it, and then violently direct it outward to produce an immense permanent wound cavity.
The Xtreme Defender is made of pure copper. It is highly resilient, which alongside the sharp edges that comprise its nose profile makes it highly effective at penetrating barriers. The Xtreme Defender also lacks a nose cavity, so it cannot fill up with detritus that could have prevented a JHP bullet from expanding.
This round’s lead-free bullet is seated in a nickel-plated case. Smooth nickel helps a semi-automatic pistol or carbine to avoid jamming as it cycles, and it additionally benefits performance by warding off corrosion. Underwood’s propellant is formulated to emit less light when it ignites. This effectively protects the shooter’s night vision, so their first shot in the dark won’t blind them.
