More Details About This Hornady 55gr FMJ 5.56x45 Ammo
What is M193? Why, it’s only the same 5.56x45 ammunition which our soldiers would take to the range or into combat. It’s also a versatile approach to any kind of target shooting you’d like to do with your own AR-15 rifle!
This Hornady Frontier cartridge’s bullet weighs in at 55 grains. At that weight and with the consistent charge of clean-burning propellant sitting beneath it, you can count on the bullet to achieve a muzzle velocity of 3,240 fps out of a 20” barrel. The aerodynamic FMJ will keep a flat trajectory as it retains about 1,540 fps velocity at 500 yards. The FMJ’s gilding metal exterior facilitates smooth functionality in a semi-automatic rifle, and will most likely fragment apart if it strikes soft tissue within about 200 yards.
This truly is military spec ammo. It’s loaded for Hornady at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, so it has rugged non-corrosive Boxer primers and newly drawn and tapered brass cases. (The gray around their shoulders show the cases have been heat treated without subsequently being polished.) These rounds’ cases have primer crimps that will need to be removed before they’re reloaded.
