Want to try a new type of 5.56x45 ammunition in your AR-15? Check out Winchester’s M855 ammo – it is essentially the same stuff our troops would use, but it’s also great for casual target shooting!
This cartridge is loaded with a 62 grain FMJ, with a pure gilding metal jacket surrounding its core. Its core is made of two parts: a lead rear and a steel front. Its steel tip gives the bullet the wherewithal to penetrate sheet metal and other barriers.
A 62 grain bullet will do just fine when it is fired from a 1:7” barrel, but for the very best long-distance accuracy you want a 1:9” or 1:8” barrel. More importantly, this ammo’s penetrator cores will attract a magnet!
This non-corrosive and Boxer-primed ammo was produced for the commercial market and is not military surplus. But its new cases are military-grade, which means they weren’t polished up following their strengthening heat treatment.
