More Details About Our 100 Rounds of 53gr V-MAX .223 Ammo by Federal
Federal Premium’s Varmint & Predator line of ammunition gives you the best of two worlds: an old Minnesotan manufacturer’s century of experience producing superior ammo, and Hornady’s legendary V-MAX hunting projectile!
The V-MAX is meant for taking small game, which is why Hornady designed it to deliver superlative accuracy. Its hyper-concentric Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket and balanced swaged lead core work in tandem to optimize the V-MAX’s rotational stability. The V-MAX’s sleek, cannelure-free jacket and perfectly centered polymer tip produce extremely little drag in flight. It all adds up to give the 53 grain V-MAX a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.290. When you want to reach out and touch a critter at 300 yards, you’ll witness a trajectory that peaks out at just 4.8”.
The V-MAX’s polymer tip rests on the thin rim of its AMP jacket, and has a long base that doesn’t quite touch the bottom of the core’s precision-formed cavity. When impact presses the tip inward, it starts storing up energy until it finally collides with the core. That’s the exact moment when the V-MAX self-destructs, sending out a shockwave of kinetic energy and jagged fragments which will kill any varmint deader than space disco. The V-MAX retains its ability to produce terminal fragmentation at velocities as low as 1,600 fps, which places this round’s effective range at approximately 615 yards.
Federal seats each and every V-MAX to a consistent depth within a select brass case. This ammo’s noncorrosive Boxer primers are sealed – a nice touch if long-term storage is in its future.
