More Details About This Federal 1-3/4" #4 Buck 12ga Ammunition
Federal’s Shorty Shotshell packs a lot of power into a small package. Despite being only 1-3/4” long, this shell is perfectly equipped to anchor the ruggedest buck in the woods (at close range). And thanks to its diminutive stature, you can fit significantly more Shorty Shotshells into a shotgun’s magazine!
This shell is loaded with 11/16 ounces of #4 buckshot. In other words, it sends out 15 0.24” diameter lead balls at a muzzle velocity of 1,200 fps. Now, #4 buck is smaller than the 00 buck usually used for hunting and home defense. One #4 buck pellet only weighs about 38 percent as much as a piece of double-aught. But the #4 buck’s small size is the reason why this mini shell can hold so many shot pellets and deliver such a dense pattern! Smaller buckshot is also preferable if you’re doing everything in your power to avoid wall penetration that could put innocent bystanders in harm’s way.
A Shorty Shotshell’s lighter shot column and modest muzzle velocity both contribute to its lower felt recoil. That’s a big plus as far as recoil-averse shooters are concerned, and you may appreciate less muzzle rise to throw off your aim if you’re ever in a life-or-death scenario.
